On Friday, June 19, Maricopa County took formal action to require face coverings be worn in public in all areas of the County, including the portions of Queen Creek that are within the County boundaries.
“It is the personal responsibility of Arizonans to protect themselves from COVID-19,” said Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “With the increase in COVID-19 cases in Arizona, we encourage residents to observe healthy behaviors to help slow the spread, this includes wearing face coverings as directed by Maricopa County.”
Highlights of Maricopa County’s regulations include:
-
People older than six must wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces (where 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained)
- Adults with children 2 to 5 years old must make reasonable effort to make them wear face coverings inside enclosed public spaces
- All riders and operators on public transportation must wear a face covering
- Staff working in public spaces (such as restaurants or stores) must wear face coverings
The County regulations include exemptions from wearing face coverings that include:
- The regulations do not apply to people in their homes
- Children under 2 years old
- Restaurant patrons while they are eating and drinking
- People walking or exercising outdoors (while maintaining six feet of distance)
- When in a personal vehicle (with only household members), office or other personal space
- Recognized medical exceptions (people do not have to provide proof)
Enforcement in the Town of Queen Creek is the responsibility of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office – District 6 Queen Creek, and per the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-40 and the County regulations, it should focus on educating the public about the dangers of community spread.
