The Town of Queen Creek broke ground on permanent Fire Station 5, located at 245 W. Combs, which will replace interim Fire Station 5, located at 980 W. Combs Rd.
“Last month, we broke ground on permanent Fire Station 2 in the southwest area of Town and today we are breaking ground on permanent Fire Station 5 in the southeast area of Town,” stated Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “This is a testament to the Council’s commitment to public safety! And, by moving forward with both permanent stations, we are experiencing a number of savings with both the design and build – another priority of your Council – being fiscally responsible with your tax dollars.”
The layout of permanent Fire Station 5 mirrors permanent Fire Station 2, with exterior design adjustments to complement the surrounding area. The similar layout will result in the same efficiencies and safety enhancements. Efficiencies include an additional bay to store equipment, dedicated space for law enforcement and state-of-the-art bifold doors.
Safety enhancements include sealed, ground concrete that reduces exposure to biohazards, an isolated storage area for firefighters’ protective equipment, or turnouts, and an additional area for decontamination. The separation will reduce any contamination from the turnouts to other materials and reduce exposure to exhaust. The bays will also include a built-in exhaust ventilation. These safety features are standard in all of the Town’s permanent stations.
Perlman Architects designed the station with Willmeng completing the construction. The station is anticipated to open in the spring of 2022. QCFMD broke ground on permanent Fire Station 2 earlier this year. QCFMD opened an interim Fire Station 5 in early 2019 to service the southeast area of Town, which will be replaced by permanent Fire Station 5 once it is complete.
QCFMD offers five stations throughout the community:
