At its recent meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council unanimously approved ordinance 865-25, lowering the Town’s primary property tax rate for the third consecutive year. The action benefits existing residents, lowering the rate from $1.63 to $1.55 per $100 of assessed value. In 2022, the Town Council approved a resolution to freeze property taxes for five years. The policy reduces the property tax rate each year as property values increase.
“It is really remarkable to be able to lower our property tax rate as costs in general continue to go up,” shared Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley. “Lowering our property tax rate is a direct savings to our residents and businesses. This is one example of how this Council continues to be fiscally responsible, while continuing to prioritize providing a high quality of life here in Queen Creek.”
The amount of property taxes residents will pay is approximately the same as the amount paid last year, which is about $434 annually for the median value home. By lowering the tax rate, the projected cumulative savings for the average homeowner is $557 over the five-year period. The Town’s overall property tax revenues will increase each year only through property taxes assessed on new homes and businesses.
The Town’s primary property tax was approved by voters in 2007 not to exceed $1.95 per $100 of assessed value and is dedicated to fund public safety. The primary property tax remained $1.95 per $100 of assessed property value until 2020, when Town Council voted unanimously to reduce the primary property tax rate to $1.83 per $100 of assessed value.
The Town’s public safety services are funded through primary property taxes and supplemented with the Town’s general fund.
