On Jan. 21, the Town of Queen Creek celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Gail A. Barney Public Safety Support Facility, marking a significant milestone in the Town’s continued commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness.

The nearly 65,000-square-foot facility, located at 22050 E. Queen Creek Road, was renovated from the former Barney Family Sports Complex, which the Town purchased and renovated to meet the growing public safety needs of both the Queen Creek Fire & Medical Department (QCFMD) and Queen Creek Police Department (QCPD). Situated on 10 acres and adjacent to the Town’s Field Operations Facility and Frontier Family Park, the location provides strategic and functional advantages for emergency services.
“Renovating this building provided us an opportunity to realize cost savings while honoring our history and reinforcing our commitment to public safety and serving our growing community,” stated Queen Creek Mayor Juila Wheatley. “My predecessor, Mayor Gail A. Barney, served 20 years on the Queen Creek Town Council and was instrumental in many of the Town’s milestones - including the inception of both the Town’s Fire and Medical and Police Departments - we are incredibly proud to have this facility named after Mayor Barney.”
The facility provides an area for police evidence and public safety equipment storage, an area for fire apparatus maintenance, space for important public safety skills training, and a future area for turnout gear cleaning. It was designed by Arrington Watkins Architects and constructed by FCI Construction.
The decision to have a joint public safety support facility was strategic as the Town was able to save money with one facility. There were also cost savings with purchasing an existing building versus undeveloped land and creating a new facility.
