A recap of what your Town Council has been up to during the month of August.
At the Aug. 6 Town Council Meeting, Mayor Wheatley and the Town Council recognized three students who had served as interns with the Public Works' Streets Division this summer.
The Town Council also recognized staff from the Town's Fleet Division, which received several national awards for their work.
On Aug. 7, Mayor Wheatley, Vice Mayor Martineau and Council Members McClure and Oliphant attended the community screening of the "Can't Look Away" documentary at Harkins Queen Creek, hosted by the Alexander Neville Foundation.
Vice Mayor Martineau and Council Member McClure attended the Queen Creek Rotary Club's annual celebration on Aug. 12.
Council Member Oliphant attended the graduation of several new QCPD officers at the Gilbert Police Regional Academy on Aug. 14.
Council Member Brown attended the announcement for FlightSafety International at Mesa Gateway Airport on Aug. 19. Council Member Brown sits on the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority Board of Directors.
Vice Mayor Leah Martineau and Council Member McClure attended the Aug. 19 ribbon cutting for the Zaxby's, located at Vineyard Towne Center.
Mayor Wheatley and Council Members Benning, Brown, McClure and Oliphant attended the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Annual Conference in Scottsdale, Aug. 19 - 22.
The Central Arizona Project held a press conference on Aug. 20 to announce the Protecting Arizona's Lifeline Campaign and Mayor Wheatley attended with other Valley Mayors in support of the program.
The Mayor's Teen Advisory Committee attended the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Youth Conference on Aug. 20. Mayor Wheatley and the advisory members participated in the conference's annual Parade of Flags.
Queen Creek held its annual legislative dinner on Aug. 20. Mayor Wheatley and Council Members Benning, Brown, McClure, Oliphant and Padilla attended to meet with local legislators and staff.
Council Member Benning received a 16-year service award from the League of Arizona Cities and Towns at their annual Awards Luncheon on Aug. 21.
The Queen Creek Hometown Heroes Awards Luncheon was held on Aug. 26, with Queen Creek Fire and Medical Chief Vance Gray and Water Resources Director and Founding Father Paul Gardner receiving awards. Vice Mayor Martineau and Council Members McClure and Oliphant attended.
On Aug. 29, Council Members McClure and Oliphant attended the East Valley Teen Mental Health and Violence Prevention Summit, hosted by Maricopa County Supervisor Mark Stewart, along with Chief Brice and members of the Queen Creek Police Department, and staff from Parks and Recreation and the Town Manager's Office.
