A recap of what your Town Council has been up to during the month of May.
The groundbreaking for the new Switchyard development was held on May 7. Mayor Wheatley provided remarks, with Vice Mayor Martineau and Council Members McClure, Oliphant and Padilla also in attendance.
At the May 7 Town Council Meeting, the Town Council recognized several proclamations, including Mental Health Month, where they presented a proclamation to Mental Health Fest Founder Pat Taylor.
The Town Council also recognized Economic Development Week and Town Economic Development Specialist Bridgette Blair for receiving the Arizona Association of Economic Development Member of the Year Award.
Municipal Clerks Week was also proclaimed, with the Town Council recognizing Town Clerk Maria Gonzalez for being named to the 2025 Municipal Clerks Honor Roll by General Code.
The May 7 Town Council meeting also included a recognition of youth for completion of their Eagle Scout projects.
The Town has been hosting two public works fleet interns this spring. The individuals culminated their internship with a recognition at the May 7 Town Council Meeting.
The Council Meeting also marked the graduation of the 2025 Class of Queen Creek's Citizen Leadership Institute. Graduates provided group presentations, received certificates from Mayor Wheatley and were recognized by Town Council.
UHaul opened its third Queen Creek location on May 15, with Mayor Wheatley and Council Members Benning and McClure in attendance. Council Member McClure provided remarks and Mayor Wheatley cut the ribbon to mark the opening.
Mayor Wheatley was the guest speaker at the May 16 Queen Creek Chamber Coffee & a Mic event.
Mayor Wheatley attended the final meeting of this year's Mayor's Teen Advisory Committee on May 20.
On May 21, Mayor Wheatley was featured in a video interview for JustServe.
At the May 21 Town Council Meeting, the full Town Council recognized the Queen Creek High School E-Sports Team for winning the state championship.
The San Tan Memorial Gardens held its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 26. Council Members Benning, McClure and Oliphant attended, with Council Member Oliphant providing remarks.
Mayor Wheatley provided remarks at the Mountain America Credit Union Ribbon Cutting on May 30.
Council Members McClure and Oliphant attended the East Valley Mental Health Fest held at Queen Creek Junior High School on May 31.
