Work is underway for the City of Mesa’s roadway project to widen Ellsworth Road to six travel lanes and dedicated bike lanes. The overall project will be completed in phases.

Current status from City of Mesa: 

Sept. 14 – Oct. 2 

 Ellsworth Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the Germann Road intersection for crews to work in the middle of Ellsworth Road on the north side of Germann Road. North and south bound left turns will be maintained for Ellsworth Road traffic at Germann Road. 

 Oct. 3 – 9

 Ellsworth Road traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction with left turns restricted at the Germann Road intersection for milling (asphalt removal) and paving to take place, followed by utility adjustments, and temporary striping.

 Oct. 9 

 Traffic control will be removed along Ellsworth Road, to the extent possible, to restore two lanes in each direction; however, work will continue along the shoulder and outside lanes to build the third lane in each direction.

Ongoing 

 Crews also continue work in the southbound lanes (west side) of Ellsworth Road, with southbound Ellsworth Road traffic reduced to two lanes south of SR24, and further reduced to one lane southbound at approximately Pecos Road. 

 Work is taking place primarily during daytime hours, Monday through Saturday, with traffic control remaining in place 24/7 to protect the work zone and for the safety of the traveling public.

 NOTE: Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.

To minimize disruption along this high-traffic corridor, construction segments will be phased.

Traffic Impacts:

• Travel lanes will be reduced to one lane through the active work areas under construction.

• Electronic message boards will be used to post restrictions and dates. Alternate routes and signed detours will be posted to avoid delays.

• Drivers should expect slower traffic and possible delays through the active work zones.

• Access to business driveways and intersecting roads will largely be maintained throughout the project.
